Faraz Kourangi is a third year Associate with MacDonald & Associates. He represents both employees and employers in all areas of employment and human rights law.
Faraz has experience with every stage of the employment relationship from hiring, to managing disciplinary and accommodation issues, through to termination. He regularly prepares and negotiates employment contracts, policies and severance packages, in addition to advising on regulatory compliance, workplace investigations, pension and benefits, intellectual property and post-employment obligations. Faraz has acted on behalf of businesses and employees across Canada in a range of industries, including construction, manufacturing, hospitality, retail, real estate, computer software and networking, healthcare and social services.
Faraz has achieved successful results in cases of wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, discrimination, director and officer liability, and shareholder disputes in closely held corporations. He represents clients in court and mediation, as well as in proceedings before the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and professional regulatory bodies. He also writes articles and research papers on topical employment law issues, including a paper on the duty to accommodate test-takers in education, employment and professional licensing, which was featured at the Law Society of Ontario’s 7th Annual Human Rights Summit.
Faraz earned his B.A. in Philosophy and Social and Political Thought from York University, and his J.D. from the Queen’s University Faculty of Law. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2018.
In his spare time, Faraz enjoys playing piano and drums, tending to his collection of exotic plants and spending time with his family and friends.
